If you've been following me even for a short while, you're probably familiar with my gorgeous Brittany Spaniel, Whiskey. We brought her home in 2017 when she was 8 weeks old, diligently took her to weekly puppy classes for a full year where we learned to capitalize on her intelligence and treat-motivated behavior with training and tricks that delight anyone who meets her.
She is full of energy and loves to run and play with other dogs. And while we had a little bit of snow last year (her first winter), it was nothing compared to the dumping we got this February! We were literally snowed in for 5 days. Have you seen my stairs? There are 98 of them between the spot where I park my car and my waterfront home sweet home. We lost power a couple of times, but we learned our lesson when we first moved to the island and bought a generator. Whiskey didn't care, she was thrilled with the snow! Not only did she have both her parents home for a good long stretch, she had a lot of snowballs to eat!
Seattle will typically get a light dusting each year, and a big snowstorm every 3-4 years, and this was one for the record books. It's so quiet when it's snowing and the large fluffy flakes are so pretty falling in slow motions, but as soon as the snow gets dirty I want it gone. Even weeks later there are some large snowbanks around the island that haven't melted. Thanks to our generator, we didn't freeze, and thanks to mentally preparing for the snow, we didn't go too crazy.
Whiskey was our first pure bred dog acquired from a breeder (we've always adopted from the local animal shelters) and our first Brittany,! We did a fair amount of research on breeds before we made a decision, but we had no idea how sweet, smart and intense she would be! She's also got beautiful markings — the debate continues as to whether that spot on her head is a bone or a heart. She is turning 2 years old in May, which I can't believe — time really does fly by once you have kids! I'll be sure to post images from her big birthday bash with all her puppy friends from school, and the neighborhood.
